Am I a Good Liposuction Candidate?
You are a good liposuction candidate if you have already tried diet and exercise and have not been able to eliminate small pockets of fat, you are within 25 lbs. Of your ideal body weight, you have a clear understanding of the risks and benefits of lipo as well as the probable outcome for you, and you are in stable mental and physical condition.

What type of anesthesia is used for body contouring?
Three types of anesthesia are used with body contouring. These include local anesthesia with sedation, epidural anesthesia, and general anesthesia. Dr. Rai typically prefers general anesthesia, but the method used depends on the extent of the procedure and also on patient preference.

What body areas can benefit from Body Contouring?
Body contouring is most commonly used to treat the abdomen, (both upper and lower portions), the hips, waist, thighs, buttocks, and the neck. Other areas commonly treated include the calves, knees, ankles, back and arms.

What are the risks of Liposuction?
Primary risks of liposuction can include infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia, blood clots and nerve damage. However, Dallas Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Rai takes appropriate precautions to minimize risk to his patients.

Liposuction is currently the second most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the U.S. (after breast augmentation). While there have been reports of serious complications and even death resulting from liposuction, recent research indicates that there has been a significant improvement in liposuction safety.

Risks and complications may include but are not limited to unfavorable scarring, infection, hematoma, fluid accumulation, skin irregularities, skin looseness, asymmetry, and pulmonary complications.
It is important to remember that although significant complications can occur, they are uncommon.

How much recovery time do I need for Liposuction?
Patients’ liposuction recovery time is dependent on the number of areas treated. Most patients experience a reduction of initial swelling within the first week following the surgery, and are able to return to a light work schedule. You are free to take showers after two days, but a bath should not be taken for a week or so.

There is usually some degree of bruising after liposuction. This usually goes away within two weeks. Some patients have virtually no bruising, but most have at least a little.

In addition to swelling in the area treated by liposuction, you may have swelling in a dependent body area (lower on the body than the liposuction was). For example, abdominal liposuction often causes swelling in the groin area, liposuction of the thighs or legs may cause swelling of the ankles. This dependent-area swelling is temporary and resolves rapidly however.

You will probably be advised to wear a compression garment for two to three weeks. By three weeks, approximately 60%-70% of the result will usually be evident. It takes approximately three months for the final appearance.
