In most situations, Dr. Rai prefers ultrasonic liposuction (also known as ultrasound assisted lipoplasty or UAL). With the ultrasonic liposuction technique Dr. Rai is able to remove the fat that is first broken up by ultrasound. With the ultrasonic technique the ultrasound waves break up the fat cells and emulsify the fat. The fat, now in liquefied form, can then be removed with a low-pressure suction. This is an advantage over traditional liposuction because it can be less traumatic on the body. One advantage of ultrasonic liposuction is that it cuts down on surgery time, decreases tissue trauma, and reduces blood loss so bruising and faster recovery time can occur.
