Liposuction Recovery

Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas Lipo

Liposuction recovery is dependent on a number of factors, including the number of areas treated, the amount of fat removed, your age, your health, and your personal healing rate. Below is a general timetable of liposuction recovery, but your individual recovery time will vary.

Immediately after Liposuction

Plastic surgeon in Texas, Dr. Vasdev Rai performs liposuction under general anesthesia because it is safer and eliminates the chance that involuntary body movements will impact your procedure or results. After the procedure, you will wake up and stay in our recovery room until we’re sure you’ve recovered enough to go home with your driver, a responsible adult who should stay with you the rest of the day. We will go over postoperative instructions with you and your driver, and give you a sheet with detailed instructions in writing. Your first day of recovery should be focused on recovery.

The First Few Days of Recovery

By the day after your procedure, you are encouraged to get up and walk around, and should feel well enough to do so. Walk around your house, and maybe a short, easy walk around the block, but not too much. You will experience some discomfort that is typically controlled by your prescription medication. Numbness in the treated area is also common. If you look at the treated area, it will likely be swollen, and it may be bruised, lumpy, and uneven. This is normal at this stage and not a cause for alarm.

Your discomfort will subside, and by a few days after surgery you should feel well enough to return to nonstrenous work. However, for three weeks you should avoid strenuous work, exercise, and other activities that can elevate your heart rate and put stress on the treated area.

Full Recovery and Final Results

During your recovery, you will wear a compression garment that will help your body heal into its desired final shape. You should wear this garment until Dr. Rai clears you to remove it. At this time, most of your numbness, swelling, and lumpiness should be gone, though your results will continue to improve for several months. Final results are typically not visible until 6-9 months after the procedure.
